A list of movies recommended by one critic for better appreciation of the medium (via kottke) : I have often wanted to have lists of movies. They come in handy when you are wondering what movies to watch next, and the imdb top100 list just doesn’t cut it.
Movies to watch – 1
April 26th, 2006 § 1
Stars Wars III, Sith and the World We Inhabit
May 20th, 2005 § 10
Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker to Obi Wan Kenobi : “You are either with me, or my enemy.”
Obi Wan, in reply: “Only the Sith speak in absolutes. Now I must do what I have to.”
Obi Wan then turns his tubelight on, and starts the fight.
Point is, has anyone else heard the “You are with us, or against us” logic recently? I can’t recollect where I last heard it, for the life of me.
Star Wars – III is entertaining. No nude women, no jokes, but lots of eye candy. I even found myself thinking, whenever Yoda spoke — splitting sentences in half and rejoining them the right way requires a little effort.
Sincity – review
April 2nd, 2005 § 3
If Sincity was a graphic novel, it is also a comic movie now. Imagine reading a noir comic book on a rainy day, when the light is dim, when the characters from the frozen snap-sketches snap to life in your mind, adding continuity to the frames. As you flip through the pages dark, and very real, scenes spring to life in your mind. Now imagine taking those mental scenes projected on a widescreen, where the characters’ thoughts are spoken out loud, and where each character, far from seeming to be a Real Human Being in a Real situation, instead seems to be the work of a animation artist, too real to be true, and you begin to have an idea about what it’s like to watch Sincity.
Terminal
June 20th, 2004 § 1
I saw this movie, Terminal yesterday. Wonderful movie. I noticed that in a close up shot, Catherine Zeta-Jones’ face is shown in bad light, and the imperfections in her skin show up, but besides that, this is a movie that is different from the regular hit movie. A bit too oh-so-perfect what with all the arranged unbeleivable coincidences and all, but parts of it were truly hilarious.
Thanks to psasidhar I got to know of The history of Jazz in a picture. This is not the first time a close friend has blogged about something which is very much on my mind, as if on cue, but actually through a pure coincidence.photomatt likes Jazz, and that is among the reasons why Wordpress v1.2 is called “Mingus”. Ever wanted to see what the real Mingus looked like? There you go!
Now you must be wondering why I mention WordPress, and Terminal in the same post. Go see the movie! As it is, this post is enough of a spoiler.
