A for Apple

Here is a list of the URLs/Websites that turn up as the first entry autosuggested by my browser when I type the letter in the address bar. To make it more interesting, I have also written about the most “interesting” page for each alphabet. I am sure everyone will gain some small thing from reading this. Leave me a comment if you did (gain something).

    • A for Apache, I visited it this morning to check if mod_rewrite works in Windows, in the 2.0.x version.
    • also Pam Logan’s Asia Adventure Page, where I read an interesting account of her travels and work in Asia, a detailed description of the Tibetan Sky Burial ritual. Pam has a Ph.D., is sort of like a rocket scientist, and yet works in China/Tibet to preserve local culture and improve the social conditions. I got here a week ago, the day I was thinking about alternative careers, after my Ph.D. There is hope yet!
    • B for blog.carthik.net, D’Oh!
    • also Leetsoft Blog, where I heard of Typo, a Ruby-on-Rails powered blog tool, which incidentally seems to use the WordPress default theme, aka Kubrick, as a default style.
    • C for Codex - Recent Changes, I visit this page at least 5 times each hour, when I am not working on something else, checking for changes, vandals, and articles.
    • also Cartalk - a new way to adjust your mirrors, which I got to from a blog on Planet Gnome. This new way of setting your rear-view mirror supposedly reduces the blind spot. Driving with the suggested settings is fun :)
    • D for Distrowatch, where I am an occasional visitor.
    • also Defective Yeti, the blog of the person who runs another interesting blog, which is also somewhere in this post.
    • G for Gmail, blah! Note: I always type the “correct” address - gmail.google.com, instead of “gmail.com”. I never typed “yahoomail.com”, always “mail.yahoo.com”. I am stickler for small things like these - Always call a website by it’s Canonical name :)
    • also, GnomeFiles, which I visit quite often, to check out the latest Gnome apps.
    • H for HitorMiss - WP Feedreader - a very cool plugin/hack to have a Feedreader which displays new from blogs in your WordPress Linkroll, all within WP.
    • also, Hexfactor’s Archives, where I got to from some other site which said the new way of displaying archives was good.
    • I for Imputor, “Notice to all pirates: Do not download these MP3s. We have logged your name, phone number, and IP address. We are going to sue you. Just kidding.” hah!
    • also, ISO recorder power toy for Windows, so you can write from .iso files, using Windows XP’s Explorer CD burner. I looked this up for a friend.
    • K for Kiplinger Magazine, where I was searching for an old article about the best cars of 2005. I was a public library a few days ago, and I saw this magazine, with this article mentioned on the cover, so I flipped through the pages and soon was done with the magazine, and then I went, “Wait a minute, what happened to the article I wanted to read?”. Turns out someone had performed a perfect surgery - removing the pages containing the article, without leaves any traces. Perfect job, really, I wonder how she did it at a public library!
    • also, Linux on the Xilinx FPGA, remotely work related, move on…
    • L for My livejournal friends page, notice the “?show=P” at the end, that ensures that only articles by people appear on the page - no communities, or feeds.
    • also, Lug at UCF, yeah, we now have a Linux Users Group at school.
    • M for MooKitty, who seems to be all but off of WordPress.
    • also, Mailinator, email for signing up everywhere, via Skippy.
    • P for Photomatt, there are no photos, and recently, there’s been very little Matt, but there is a lot of action, usually.
    • also, Research into Tipping, trust me, there is nothing left to be researched in this world.
    • Q for Qingyun.net.cn, don’t ask me what it’s about, ask my labmate.
    • also, do you really expect me to browse a multitude of sites whose name begins with “q”?
    • R for Robinson House, a recent commenter on my blog.
    • also, Marsedit, where I ended up once, for some vaguely remembered reason.
    • V for Some IM guide. I was trying to “link” my ICQ number to my AOL screenname.
    • also, note that the above link was the only one beginning with the letter “V”.
    • X for Xilinx.com, actually it was a link to a .pdf manual, but I thought I’d save you the pain of clicking and then waiting for the Acrobat reader to load, which takes forever…
    • also, –bleep–
    • Z for Zeus Technology , I went to some blog, following a link. The page was missing (404), and that led me to this page.

There! All done. I showed you mine, now you all show me yours ;). One at a time will be perfect, thank you.
